Generate More Leads With Salesforce's Data.com

Salesforce.com's Sales Cloud customer relationship management (CRM) software includes a sales and lead creation component called Data.com. Through its enormous user-generated database, the Data.com platform allows members to share contact information (similar to what is seen on business cards) among themselves.

Data.com can help you find leads and keep your data up to date and complete. To find leads for your business, use Data.com Prospector. Keep your account, contact, and lead records up to date and complete with Data.com Clean. For each, a separate license is necessary.

To add records to Salesforce, use Data.com Prospector.

Search essential corporate information from Dun & Bradstreet and millions of crowd-sourced connections with Data.com Prospector. Export these records to use in other apps or add them to Salesforce as new accounts, contacts, and leads. It's a fantastic method to gather the information you need to design your sales territory, segment campaigns, engage new accounts, and grow your market presence.

Data.com allows all users to search for accounts and contacts. Users that have a Data.com Prospector license can do the following:

  • Accounts and contacts should be added to their org, and contacts should be added as leads.

  • Directly from the account record, you can add contacts to an account.

  • Data.com accounts and contacts can be exported.

  • Whether or not they were added from Data.com, manually update an account, contact, and lead information.

  • Get prospecting insights into the business, financial, competitive, and industry details of accounts.

  • Get a company's parent-child connection and account information, such as annual revenue, ownership, and employee count, in a hierarchical perspective. (This is a beta function available to Data.com Prospector users.)

Data.com Prospector consists of two components: Corporate Prospector and Premium Prospector. More Dun & Bradstreet fields are available in Premium Prospector for manually adding to or cleaning account, contact, or lead data. The Company Hierarchy page is also available to Premium Prospector users. Unless otherwise stated, the Salesforce Help refers to Data.com Premium Prospector. Contact your Salesforce account manager for more information on Premium Prospector.

Keep your data up to date and complete using Data.com Clean.

With data from Dun & Bradstreet and crowd-sourced data from Data.com, use Data.com Clean to maintain your Salesforce data current and comprehensive. Clean jobs allow you to clean all of your records on a regular basis. You can clean a single record or a group of records as well.

Data.com Clean analyses your account, contact, and lead records to Data.com records and builds a link between your records and the Data.com records that match them. Clean also gives clean account, contact, and lead status information.

Your users can perform the following in Salesforce Classic.

  • Individual account, contact, and lead records are manually compared to matched Data.com records, and records are updated field by field.

  • Choose from a list of account, contact, and lead records to update them all at once.

  • Refresh D&B Company records that are linked to accounts manually.

You can also do the following as a Salesforce administrator.

  • Configure and run automated Clean jobs to flag field value differences, fill blank fields, and rewrite field values on Salesforce records. Clean jobs may only be configured and scheduled in Salesforce Classic.

  • Create a custom solution using the Data.com Match API for unique business needs such as updating leads as they are created and updating custom objects.

Data.com Clean includes two parts: Corporate Clean and Premium Clean. More Dun & Bradstreet fields are available in Premium Clean, allowing you to manually add to or clean account, contact, or lead information. Unless otherwise stated, the Salesforce Help refers to Data.com Premium Clean. Contact your Salesforce account manager for more information about Premium Clean.

What Data.com Prospector and Data.com Clean Handle Duplicate Management

Using Data.com Prospector to Add Records

How do Data.com duplication rules work? Prospector is reliant on the Data.com duplicate options set by your organization.

If your org isn't configured to allow duplicate records from Data.com to be added to Salesforce, Data.com prevents the duplicate records, and the duplication rule isn't applied. When a user attempts to add records from Data.com, an error log is generated, outlining which records were unable to be added.

The duplication rules are activated if your organization enables duplicate records from Data.com to be added to Salesforce. The duplicate record is either allowed or blocked based on the duplicate rule. The error log shows the records that have been disallowed by the duplicate rule.

Clean Data.com Records Updating

How do Data.com duplication rules work? Clean relies on how many duplicate rules you have active. A record can't be cleaned if cleaning creates a duplicate if a duplicate rule is specified to block duplicates on edit.

If your duplication rule is configured to block or alert for Clean tasks, you won't be able to clean a record if the cleaning creates a duplicate. When records can't be cleaned during a task, an entity error occurs in the Clean Jobs History table.

A record can be cleaned even if it creates a duplicate if your duplicate rule is set to allow duplicates on change. Furthermore, even if your duplicate rule is set to alert, no indication appears when manually clearing data.
