Here's How Salesforce Promotes Collaboration through Interoperability

With problems like COVID-19 ransacking the world, have you ever wondered how governments had worked closely with other governments on a national and local level to try and keep the problem from becoming uncontrollable? The answer to that is with technology. More specifically, the interoperability of technology allowed these bodies to work hard towards solutions to deal with COVID-19.

Now, COVID-19 isn't the only case where interoperability is showcased. There are many events out there that showcase the same thing. Today, we want to delve deeper into interoperability. We want to talk about why it is so important and share with you examples of it specifically from Salesforce:

Why Is Interoperability So Important?

Interoperability is essential because it allows for the exchange of information between systems. While this might not sound like much, it can do much for a business, especially in the long term. The ability to share data between systems allows for quicker decision-making, faster responses, and more importantly, it allows for national and international cooperation. Interoperability also provides for a better chance at preventing and dealing with crises, like a pandemic or other global threat.

How Salesforce Has Promoted Collaboration through Interoperability

Salesforce has been a huge player in helping to promote interoperability. In fact, Salesforce was one of the founding members of the International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS), which works towards the standardization of the field of information technology worldwide. This includes standards for interoperability.

In addition to that, Salesforce has been a firm believer in interoperability and the open-source community. Due to this, they've joined and supported the OpenWorld Forum, an open-source community that helps to educate, engage, and support the open-source community.

Now, you might be wondering how Salesforce has worked to promote interoperability. There are a few key examples that relate directly to Salesforce and its work towards interoperability.

The first is the International Charter for the Safety of Life at Sea, also known as SOLAS. SOLAS is an international agreement to promote safety and security at sea, covering various topics from traveling vessels to piracy. SOLAS is a key example of how Salesforce is helping to promote and advance interoperability, both within the charter itself and with other systems.

Another example is Salesforce's work with the International Maritime Organization. While Salesforce is currently working on updating the messaging standard for the International Maritime Organization, using Salesforce’s solutions, there are many other interoperability solutions and services like the IMO's Maritime Safety Information Exchange Communication and Reporting System that Salesforce is working to improve and enhance.
